A masu is a traditional Japanese square wooden cup, originally used to measure rice during the feudal period. Today, it is mainly used during the Kagami Biraki ceremony. For such special occasions, the masu is often engraved, allowing guests to keep it as a memento. Masu are typically made of cypress wood, which imparts a subtle, pleasant fragrance to the sake.
The hot sake package is a selection of sake that becomes more beautiful, exciting, robust and powerful when heated. Currently the package consists of the following sake: Miwatari Karakuchi Keiryu Kuragakoi HonjozoKyokuko Special Junmai Which sake do you drink warm?In the past, the idea was that you should always drink sake warm, but we now know that the best quality sake is best served when served cold. The idea of heating comes from the fact that in the past we only had cheap sake where the inferior quality was disguised by heating. When you are in Japan you generally even have to specifically ask for sake to be served warm. When asked whether there are also premium sakes that can be heated, we can be short and clear: yes. Which sake is suitable for heating depends on a number of things, but usually these are sakes that have a lot of dairy and grain notes, such as the Junmai and Honjozo types. In general, they are slightly drier types and usually more robust, with Yamahai and Kimoto brewed sake in particular standing out. Image for illustration - Update: Aug 26
